‘Tis the season to prepare for IEP’s and what better way to be prepare than this training offering a focus on advocacy skills based on a curriculum created by the National Family Advocacy Support and Training (FAST) Project, a project by the PACER center. Many parents leave an IEP wishing they hadn’t said something, let their emotions get in the way, or had
been better prepared. That won’t be you after this presentation!

9/5- Wednesday- 8:30am to 6pm, PSN Youth Mental Health First Aid Certification Training. This training teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training is free and open to the community.  Refreshments, lunch and materials will be provided. Space is limited to 25 participants. 9/6- Thursday- 7:00pm, ANGST film screening at Woodside High School, 199 Churchill Ave., Woodside. ANGST features candid interviews with youth who suffer from anxiety and discussions with mental health experts about the causes of anxiety and its effects, as well as help, resources, and tools.  Spanish subtitles will be available.  Resource tables staffed by mental health organizations and light refreshments available from 6:30pm. 9/19- Wednesday- 7:00 to 8:00pm, Helping your child transition to High School.  This free community workshop will focus on issues like making new friends, trying new activities, and finding a smaller support group within the context of a larger school. Presented by Melissa Kelley, LMFT, Former School Counselor at Kehillah Jewish High School, Palo Alto High School, and Alta Vista High School.  Ms. Kelley will be presenting current social science research about the importance of letting teens make their own decisions and building resilience. In addition, she will be highlighting red flags for mental health concerns and local resources for help if needed. 9/22- Saturday- 10am to 4pm, Teen Wellness Conference (TWC).  Teenztalk.org is hosting their 2nd Annual Teen Wellness Conference. Youth ages 13-25 are invited to attend this free event held on Google’s campus at 1170 Bordeaux Dr. in Sunnyvale.  Share your questions, thoughts and stories in a safe space. 9/26- Wednesday- 6:30 to 8:00pm, Understanding ADHD and Anxiety at Home and at School.  Chris Harris, MEd, Director of EBC Schools at CHC teaches parents strategies to use at home and at school to effectively support a child with ADHD and anxiety together.
