Dr. Towery is an adolescent psychiatrist in Palo Alto. He serves on the Adjunct Clinical Faculty at Stanford University School of Medicine and is the author of "The Anti-Depressant Book: A Practical Guide for Teens and Young Adults to Overcome Depression and Stay Healthy." He will be discussing adolescents with challenges entering puberty, issues parents should be aware of, and common psychiatric medications and their effects on teenagers. There will be ample time for questions and answers. Come join us for a fun, informative, and interactive evening.

Puberty for Students with Challenges

No matter what type of disability your child may have, this training will offer a brief overview of the educational rights of parents when a child has a disability. Understanding your rights will help you participate and improve your child's education. Topics will include general education supports, student study team meetings, Section 504, Special education referral and assessment timeline, eligibility, and important key rights held by the parent and child.

Whether your student's challenges are mild or severe, our panel of experts with help you understand long-term financial planning and the legal checkpoints you will encounter along the way. Topics will include financial_ planning, trusts and special needs trusts, conservatorships, SSI/SSDI benefits, and Medi-Cal benefits. Our panel includes Ken Prodger, Rebecca Weisman, Ann Robbeloth,Lisa C. Bryant and Sara E. Hire. Questions will be welcomed, though advance notice is appreciated.

Unless otherwise noted below, all Parent Programs are held in the Santa Rita Elementary multipurpose room, 200 Los Altos Ave., Los Altos, CA  94022 (map). Doors open 15 minutes prior to start time for light refreshments and socializing. All our events are free and open to anyone who feels they might benefit. No registration is necessary.

The arts are a vehicle for creative expression and social interaction in ALL kids. The arts are linked to academic achievement as well as social and emotional development. In this forum we will explore the various arts opportunities in our community. We’ll hear from Youth Drama for All (in their 10th year of productions), Dance for ALL (a YMCA based community class), and other local arts groups.

A chance to ask questions and share ideas, resources, and support with other parents of students with IEPs, 504s, learning differences, mental health challenges, etc. All are welcome; participants must respect  confidentiality. Dates and times for 2015-16:
